where can i get some good sound fx?

im looking for basic stuff like toilets flushing, dogs barking, gun or fighting sounds or whatever, but im also looking for those "mood setting" kind of sounds.
the kind of sounds you hear in suspense movies when you KNOW something is about to jump out and scare the **** out of you.
the kind of sounds youd hear in a when text rushes to the screen with a loud kinda 'bang/crash/thud' sound when it stops.

ive searched the web for stuff, but usually get the same **** that isnt what im looking for.

any suggestions?

looked pretty useful to me if you have time to waste.

Hey there.

Get yourself a god mic, a minidisc recorder and a set of earphones. Then just keep them in a bag and carry them around. Collect your own sound effects.

99% of cheap canned sound fx will be **** FACT. Unless your planning on spending lots of money on them your better of recording your own.

For sound effects, I found these guys a while back and they've got some neat stuff.

On sonic foundry's website (http://www.sonicfoundry.com), they've got samples from the different loop libraries that might help. I think there's one called "Ambient Realms". They may have some free sample loops that you can use.

Another neat trick is to do the thing where you take a wine glass... one of the expensive crystal one's that mom would never let you touch when you were a kid... fill it part-way with water, and slide your finger along the rim. When the friction from you finger causes the glass to atenuate, it will make a high-pitched humming noise. This humming noise works great for those shots where a character is slowly walking down a hallway and reaching for a doorknob.

This is where I get some of my more obscure ones, but sometimes they are **** , and sometimes they are good, but a little soft, and sometimes they work great. May not be very consistent, but they have lots.
